14 Days until Irmik Helvası

Yeay! Only two weeks until I can finally go home and eat delicious food (:

One of my favorite Turkish desserts is irmik helvası. This is halva made from semolina and pine nuts and it is really delicious. In its texture it is a bit like rice, but the grains are smaller and it has a sweet taste (click here for a recipe). And it goes really well with ice cream!

Irmik helvası used to be one of the best parts of my high school lunch. Whenever İt was out in the cafeteria I used to get several plates of it. However irmik helvası is also traditionally served after a person’s death, so I guess it’s a bittersweet kind of thing. It might not make us feel much better, but it’s certainly delicious.
